B.

Sir,

Enclosure No.2 to letter from Commodore,

27

Hong Kong, dated 6th August, 1926. No.344/H.K.053.

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong.

4th August, 1926.

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your

letter No.H.K.053/2152 dated 12th June, 1926, enclosing a

statement of account and forwarding a claim arising from

the chartering of the S.S."TUNG ON" during the period 9th

July until 24th July, 1925.

2.

I am to point out that the "TUNG ON" was run

principally for the benefit of the Naval and Military

Authorities and for the residents of Shameen who come under

the protection of the

Imperial Authorities, that the

voyage to Kongmoon on July 17th was made at the special

request of the Naval Authorities, and that Naval stores

were carried free of charge.

3.

The Government is therefore unable to admit any

liability for the claim submitted by you amounting to

S/1843.89. There is however a sum of $876.45 in the hands

of the Colonial Treasurer being credit balance on the

accounts of the "TUNG ON" while under charter to this

Government, and as the Government has no desire to make

any profit on the chartering it is prepared to hand over

this sum to the Cashier, His Majesty's Dockyard, Hongkong,

provided that this payment is accepted as a full discharge

of all claims on the Government on account of the "TUNG ON"

charter.

The Secretary to the Commodore,

Commodore's Office,

Hong Kong.

I am, Sir,

Your obediert Servant,

(Sgd.) E.W. Hamilton.

for Colonial Secretary.
